The Walker

At a friends' house this weekend, Andrew tried out a walker for the first time. He's used to the jumperoo and initially was confused why he wasn't bouncing in it. But slowly he figured it out and shuffled around....backwards.

In Boston

Sorry folks, no photo update today - I'm in Boston with Andrew while Shawn does some interior painting at the house. But I will share some exciting news, Andrew is officially crawling! We put him down on the floor and he motors away.

Andrew is becoming increasingly mobile, though I wouldn't call it crawling just yet. We're enjoying the calm before the storm, as I hear chasing after a moving baby is exhausting.

On our way back from Ohio, we had a nice visit in Pittsburgh with Shawn's sister, Erin. Andrew liked her very much - he only met her once before when he was 2.5 months old.

First Food!

After acting seemingly jealous of us at the dinner table, we decided it was time for Andrew to start on rice cereal. I don't think he cared much for the taste, but obviously he had watched us long enough to know how to use the spoon!

Last Day on the Farm

Its been a lovely 2 weeks - beautiful weather, good company. Andrew's gotten the hang of being a farmhand, as you can see!

Photo Shoot

My friend here in Ohio is working on starting up a photography business and we did an outdoor shoot on Sunday. The pictures are gorgeous. If you are on Facebook, check em out. For those of you not on FB, I'll post 3 here daily for the rest of my stay in Ohio (1 more week.)

Firsts

Hi all, we're in Ohio visiting Nana and Pop Pop and I don't have the cable I need to upload photos. So for the next week or two I'll just post photos from earlier in May until we return.

Its been a week of firsts here. Andrew has said Mama a few times. Most recently while he was sitting quietly (read: bored) in his jumperoo while I was reading a book (read: ignoring him). Oops. Got my attention! Smart kid. Hearing mama made my heart turn to applesauce. All melty.

He's also started crawling. Not sure if it is really crawling or scooting? If you're on facebook, the video is posted there. Pretty much if I put something in front of him, he'll go get it. He can move himself across a king size bed in a couple minutes time. On the floor he gets up on all 4s and sways alot. Problem right now is that he drags his head a bit while crawling. Carpet burn on baby head = big ouch.

Lastly he sat by himself unsupported the other night. Showoff.

Size-wise

People have often commented that A seems so big in the photos I post, so I thought I'd offer a sense of scale. Its just a good zoom lens, thats all! He's a tiny thing, around 15 lbs.

Baby in the Mirror

New View

We bit the bullet and purchased the Rolls Royce of baby carriers: the Pikkolo by CatBirdLady. In this new contraption Andrew can be worn on the front, back or hip, facing in or out. Its adjustable from 0-40 lbs. So far so good, its very comfortable with its padded straps, and Andrew seems to like it.

Big Kid

We're getting A used to the high chair. He gets pretty impatient in it, but with a nice selection of toys, he can last a half hour or so. Mostly I think he's jealous that we're eating solids and he's not. That adventure begins in a few short weeks...

Andrew loves seeing new places - here we are at a local historic site.

We had a fun time at Albany's Tulip Fest this weekend - Andrew especially liked the bright colored flowers.

Happy Guy

5 months old

Everyone told me that at around 5 months, things would really change, and I'd have to agree. Andrew is far more communicative - example in the photo: when he's tired, he rubs his eyes. When he's happy he giggles; when he's bored he tries to twist himself out of his seat. He sleeps about 12-14 hours for every 24, and has made a 7 hour stretch before waking to eat. He grabs everything in sight and can entertain himself with said toy independently. He's very chatty, alert, interested in the world around him, has many quizzical eyebrow expressions, and has gotten himself up on all fours. He's a really happy fellow, rarely cries. He's also starting to exercise free will which has been pretty interesting. He realized that he is in control of his body and doesn't have to do what Mom would like! For example he flips himself over when I'm trying to dress/change him; he arches his back and locks his legs when I am trying to put him in the car seat; he slithers out under the bar of his stroller if i don't belt him in quick enough....all which he finds rather amusing. Reminds me of his uncle Adam's shenanigans.

We had mucho fun at the farmers market this weekend which just moved to its riverside location. Lots of friendly folks flirted with the baby who readily returned the smiles.

Shawn's parental leave has really allowed Andrew to bond with his Dad, I just love watching them together.

Lately it doesn't take much to make Andrew laugh - a silly face, a funny sound, tickles. He occasionally snorts, but mostly makes a hee-haw kind of laugh, its great.

Happy Cribber

Lately the crib isn't just for sleeping - Andrew practices crawling (a.k.a. slithering) and plays with his dolls. Occasionally he'll wake up in the morning talking to himself, rolling back and forth - its very cute!

20 weeks

Andrew is half a pregnancy old! And looking alot like his dad.

My favorite thing to do is bring him into bed with us in the morning for snuggles :)

Misters A & B

I can't say it enough, I love watching Andrew and Bosley become friends. I never had a pet growing up and didn't realize how sweet babies and animals are with each other. Here's another cute picture of them - this time lounging in our (messy) bed.

The Explorer

Andrew is quite the explorer despite not being able to crawl. As you can see, his limited mobility doesn't stop him. Here he took a nosedive out of my arms, and plopped onto the chair. Speaking of...pictured is his new bumbo chair in which he can sit upright. In fact I brought him to a meeting at the office the other day, put the bumbo on the conference table chair, and he quietly played sitting amongst us architects. Proud mama I was!

More Bosley Fun

Andrew LOVES Bosley. Every day they become better buddies. So cute! Bosley would lick Andrew all day long if he could, and Andrew would probably enjoy that :)

String Bean

Back from our 4 month Dr appt...Andrew is in the 20th percentile for weight, and 80th for height! Looks like we've got to stop calling him Mr. Chubbs and instead nickname him String Bean. Clean bill of health and a couple of teeth ready to pop.

This week Pop Pop and Nana are here visiting - they haven't seen me since I was 11 weeks old! I've been showing off my 18 week skills, they're impressed.

4 months old

Well, almost. A day shy. Here's what he's up to, developmentally - he can raise up on straightened arms while lying on his tummy and look all around, can grasp toys, laughs out loud, squeals with delight, smiles spontaneously, pays attention to very small objects, experiments by making new sounds, recognizes us. We have his pediatrician appt next week, I'm very curious about his weight/height percentiles. I *think* he's between 14-15 lbs now?
